YouTube is great, but it’s important to not neglect other social media platforms as you grow your channel and connect with subscribers all over the world. Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Periscope, Twitter, and other platforms are just as important as YouTube, but navigating all of them can get confusing. We’re here to help with a series of tutorials on different social media platforms, to help you maximize your online presence and keep you connected with your subscribers. Today: Snapchat!

Snapchat is the fastest-growing social media network, boasting over 100 million daily active users and counting. With Snapchat, your posts only exist for your followers until they open them: After a snap is opened, it can only be viewed once per subscriber, and will disappear forever within about 10 seconds – you can replay just ONE snap per day.
You might be thinking, “Well, what’s the point in making something that disappears almost instantly??” The point is that because snaps disappear after one viewing, you’ve got your followers’ undivided attention, a rarity in today’s multitasking world. Use it to your advantage!

Snapchat Opening Videos

Many popular YouTubers make videos where they open their followers’ Snapchat messages to them – think how excited your subscribers are when you retweet them or comment on one of their Instagram posts. They’ll be beyond psyched to get a mention in a YouTube video!

Mention Your Snapchats on Other Social Media

Just as you always tell your followers to check out your Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook pages, you should promote your Snapchat account.

Secret Posts

Hint that there will be exclusive content on Snapchat that subscribers won’t see anywhere else. Of course, you can always post previews of your YouTube videos on Snapchat, but having special content on Snapchat makes users feel like they’re in on something secret.

Serial

Telling a story over multiple posts in Snapchat keeps people enthralled. Whether it’s a story about your day, or a company teasing a coupon code, or details about a giveaway, it’ll leave subscribers wanting more.

Filters and Drawing

Vomiting rainbows? Anime eyes? Hand-written messages on photos? Snapchat has ‘em all. Use them wisely, and use them often. Don’t forget about filters like Geolocation, Time Stamps, and the front-facing flash for selfies.

Time is of the Essence

Snapchats can be still photos, or videos of up to 10 seconds. Ten seconds isn’t a lot of time to make an impression, so plan carefully and make sure you preview your video before uploading.
