Full Disclosure: Making Sure You’re FTC Compliant

ftc-disclosure

Transparency is key when you’re building a subscriber base. Your followers not only deserve to know when you’re being paid to promote a product or are using affiliate links to earn money when they buy products you recommend – it’s the law! Remember when the queen of paid endorsements, Kim Kardashian, got in trouble for not transparently disclosing her paid Instagram partnership with the anti-nausea drug, Diclegis? Don’t let that happen to you!

Please take the time to read both MagicLinks’ FAQ page and the FTC’s page on Endorsement Guides, which covers both endorsements and affiliate links.

Wherever you post a MagicLink, you must clearly disclose that it is an affiliate link. A note posted in a clear, conspicuous place with your links that says something like, “FTC disclosure: This post or video contains affiliate links, which means I may receive a commission for purchases made through my links” usually suffices as a disclaimer.

When posting links on YouTube videos, include the disclaimer in the description box with your links. For Instagram and Twitter, you can include the verbiage in your Twitter bio. On blog posts, add the disclaimer to the bottom of the blog post the links are in.

If you ever have questions about disclosure laws, or anything else relating to your MagicLinks account – or, heck, even just want to discuss the season finale of The Walking Dead – please email your account manager or hello@magiclinks.org. We’re here to help!
