A good pearl necklace will never, ever go out of style – but finding good quality freshwater pearls at a price that doesn’t break the bank is nearly impossible. Until now, that is! MagicLinks user and YouTuber Elle Florence, a lawyer from Vancouver, BC, Canada, recently launched a line of convertible pearl jewelry, Nouvelle Pearl. She sat down to chat with us about it. Read on for more information about the inspiration behind Nouvelle Pearl!
MagicLinks: Congratulations on your new jewelry line, Nouvelle Pearl! What inspired you to create these pieces?
Elle Florence: I have a long term passion for designing and creating jewelry, and pearls have always appealed to me as they are timeless and elegant. However, I always felt that there weren’t many affordable and appealing options when it came to purchasing genuine freshwater pearls, and that even high end pearls could often look very dated in their design.
ML: The versatility really makes them an even better value. Do you have plans to expand to earrings, rings, other pearl colors, other gemstones, etc?
EF: I want to keep my jewelry line lean and strong, to keep prices affordable and maintain excellent quality. However, due to the overwhelming desire of my subscribers to have matching earrings, I will be adding those to my site as soon as possible!
ML: How long did it take to get the line launched, from conception to production to sales?
EF:It took me about two years to refine my design and find pearls that are not crazy expensive but still beautiful. [My pearls are sourced] from all over Asia.
ML: How did the line get started? Did a company approach you, or did you decide you wanted to create a company and search out vendors/suppliers?
EF: I think that’s what makes Nouvelle Pearl really different from other influencer driven lines. I did absolutely everything from designing the necklaces, to creating them, designing the packaging, and even setting up the website, which was daunting. However, the payoff is that I was able to get everything to be just so, like I would expect it to be if I was the purchaser. The line is infused with my personality and practical outlook, and I am able to maintain a strong personal dialogue with purchasers, which is very important to me, because I know how busy they are and how hard they work, since I also work full time!
ML: What advice would you have to fellow YouTubers and bloggers who want to start their own business?
EF: My advice is to go for it! It is so rewarding to see your vision come to life. However, I think it is important to do it because you are passionate about your design or idea,and not to cash in on your audience….Being genuine (even virtually!) is very important to me. It’s something I never want to lose sight of.
ML: How do you fit in Nouvelle Pearls with your full-time career as a lawyer, plus vlogging and blogging? Would you consider making it your full-time career?
EF: Keeping very organized helps! I see myself dedicating myself more to creative pursuits over time. However, I also want to maintain my connection to the legal profession, because I still find it so interesting and stimulating. Because I have many different interests, I don’t think one career path can be expected to fully complete me!
